Mango Raspberry Green Smoothie

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

I know, this doesn't look very appetizing.  I promise that it tastes way better than it looks.  If you can't stand the way it looks go ahead & put it in a sports bottle or a non-see through cup & use a straw. Your body will thank you!

Mango Raspberry Green Smoothie

1 mango (fresh or frozen)
1 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
3 handfuls of your favorite greens
1 cup water (more if using both fruits as frozen)

Blend greens with water, add in mango and raspberries, and blend until smooth.  Enjoy!

Luscious Pineapple-Orange Salad

This is a very light & refreshing salad! It would be perfect on a scorching hot summer day too.  It only takes minutes to prepare, but you'll want to let it set for a few minutes to allow the fruit juices to "dress" the greens. That's right - this is a salad dressing free salad! Don't worry you won't miss it. :) Also this would be really good with sprouts added. I didn't have the foresight to have sprouts made, but next time I will.

Luscious Pineapple-Orange Salad

1 cup chopped pineapple
1 orange (peeled & chopped)
4-5 handfuls of your favorite greens (I used mixed greens and baby spinach)
2 handfuls of your favorite sprouts

Place the greens in a large bowl. Add fruits & sprouts (if using) and mix all together. Allow to sit for a few minutes so the fruit juices can "dress" the greens.  Eat slowly & enjoy!

Banana Mango Green Smoothie

It's been a long time since I've posted a new green smoothie recipe. I'm doing a green smoothie detox this week, so plan on sharing some of the new things I make.  This is a lovely, creamy green smoothie thanks to the addition of mango. I used a whole celery stick in this green smoothie. If you have never tried using celery in your green smoothies, it does give it a different taste. I really would recommend starting out with a half stick of celery and building up to using more.

Banana Mango Green Smoothie

2 bananas (fresh or frozen)
1 mango (fresh or frozen)
3 large handfuls baby spinach
1 celery stick (use less if new to using celery in smoothies)
1 cup water

Put ingredients in blender in best order for your blender (I do the greens first), use the celery stick to push everything down to the blender blade, eventually blending the celery too.

Enjoy!

Hot Pink Smoothie

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

A friend of mine first introduced me to the idea of the hot pink smoothie - she was making them all the time and telling me how good they were.  I found this video of the Green Smoothie Girl making her Hot Pink Smoothie and I've based my recipe on that.

Hot Pink Smoothie

1.5 cups pure water
5-6 baby carrots (or 1 whole carrot)
1/2 a medium beet
1/4 cup cashews
1 Medjool date
12 whole frozen strawberries

Place all ingredients except strawberries in blender and blend for 90 seconds. Add strawberries and blend on high until smooth (helps to use the chop ice function to start). Pour in glass and enjoy!

Blueberry Blues Green Smoothie

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

This right here is one of my most favorite smoothies.  There is something about the blueberries and swiss chard that has a calming effect on me. Maybe it's just me but I'm sure my family would love if I drank this smoothie all the time. ;)   I would have taken a before blending photo but I had to blend the greens first in order to get everything to fit. And since I want you to try this, I thought I would spare you that picture. :) After it was all blended, my blender jar is full of this glorious smoothie. I hope you'll try it!

Blueberry Blues Green Smoothie

4 bananas
2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
½ cup or more water
5 leaves of red chard, stalk removed (I used green chard since it was on sale)

Instructions:
Put ingredients in the blender, and blend until smooth.

Raw Tabbouleh Salad

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

This is the first time I have ever had Tabbouleh of any kind. I have to tell you I am hooked on this raw version. It is so incredibly good. Could it be the addition of cumin, maybe. ;) I love cumin. Really you have to try this even if you think you don't like Tabbouleh I think you should try this, just once. :) Tonight when I made it I was out of broccoli (I used it all in the broccoli soup!) so I just made it without and it was still fantastic.

Raw Tabbouleh Salad
Original recipe can be found here.

3/4 cup of cauliflower(the size of cous cous)
1/2 cup broccoli (the size of cous cous)
1/4 cilantro, chopped
1 Medium Tomato, diced
Juice of half a lemon
1.5 tsp. Cumin(or more to taste)
1 TB Olive Oil
Sea Salt(to taste)
Cayenne(I just used a pinch)
1 big handful baby spinach

Instructions:
I took a sharp knife and sliced from the top down so it would be very small like cous cous. If you have a food processor this may be easier that way. Put Cauliflower (and broccoli if using)in a bowl with cilantro, diced tomato, olive oil, lemon, cumin, sea salt, and cayenne to taste. Let it "marinade" for at least 10 minutes. Chop up spinach and toss with mix.

Mexican Greens Salad

This is the salad I made for lunch today. This is the first time I've made it, and while it is very good next time I'll add a little more Mexican seasoning. I was hoping it would have just a little more of a kick.  If you don't like spicy things then the recipe as written below should be just perfect. You can taste the spice but it doesn't bite you back . ;) Hope you'll try it and let me know what you think.

Mexican Greens Salad

4 big leaves of Romaine lettuce
2 Swiss chard leaves (stems & vein removed and reserved for juicing)
1/4 cup of cilantro, chopped
1/2 red pepper, chopped
2 Tbs. extra virgin olive oil
1/8 cup lemon juice
1/2 small avocado, chopped
1/4 tsp Mexican seasoning (I mixed up the seasoning I use for tacos)
Dulse flakes or sea salt to taste

Instructions:
Chop the romaine and Swiss chard into ribbons, then transfer to a salad bowl. Mix the olive oil and the seasonings into the lemon juice and pour over the greens. Work the dressing into the greens with your hands to tenderize them. Add the red pepper and the cilantro and avocado and allow to marinate for 10 minutes at room temperature before serving.

Cool Green Banana Smoothie

Another great smoothie! This smoothie is sooo creamy and good. Very comforting.  I used a big handful and a half of baby spinach and 2 big leaves of swiss chard (cut the stems & veins off - if you have a juicer you can save those for juicing). I also added a 1/2 cup of pure water - you can add more or less, depending on how thick you want your smoothie. I had enough to fill a big glass and a little left, so I poured that into a little bowl. I put that in the fridge for later, because I'm thinking it's going to make a nice little pudding.

Cool Green Banana Smoothie

2 big handfuls baby spinach (or other green or mixture of greens)
1 handful of mint (as much or as little as you like)
4 bananas
1/2 cup pure water (or more, if you like - none if you want a pudding like consistency)

Instructions:
Put all ingredients into blender and blend. Pour and enjoy!

Minty Green Smoothie

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

This smoothie is so good! There is something about adding mint to my morning smoothie that just says "hello sunshine!" to me. I also think this smoothie would be very good with swiss chard. mmm Next time I'll try that. Or even a mixture of baby spinach and Swiss chard. The thing about green smoothies (and all recipes really) is that they are just guidelines. You can do anything you like with them.  I rarely measure my greens anymore (unless its a "green" green like romaine) I just throw in a couple big handfuls and blend it up. Have fun with your smoothies, experiment.  When you try something new just make sure you taste it before you pour it, you might find you need to add something; easier to do that before you pour it. ;)

Minty Green Smoothie

2 cups baby spinach
1 handful mint
2 pears
2 bananas

Instructions:
Chop pears. Put all ingredients in your blender and blend (If you don't have a high powered blender it's easier to blend your greens first then add in the fruit. Mine isn't high powered & I had to use a spoon to push things down to get it blended). Pour & enjoy.
